Versatile Blogger Award

February 25, 2019

Versatile Blogger Award

I was stoked when I got a message from Maria of Mommy Saves saying that she nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award!!! Wow! I am more than honoured and gratefully pleased that I was nominated in a blogger award like this. Maria is a Mother of 2 boys, and they’re from Canada. She always shares ways to save money, yummy family recipes and their fun family trips! Last year, they went to Disneyland and spent the holidays there. It was so lovely to read her blog posts and I'm happy to have connected with her through our blogs and Instagram. She's awesome! You have to check her out!

For me, I’ve been blogging since 2009, but never really had been recognized. Probably because I wasn't really putting my whole heart and soul into blogging before and I wrote content just whenever I want to. That should not be the case! I learned through other blogs that I’ve read in the past that to become a great blogger, I should take care of it and be passionate about it. Success in blogging doesn’t happen overnight! It takes a lot of hard work, time, effort and passion. It’s not luck or destiny! I should really put my heart and soul into it to become successful!

Mama-Kate blog is a place where Moms can talk about real motherhood stories, dramas and fun stuff too. I started sharing my thoughts and experiences as a Mom here and on my Facebook page because I know that everything is a little bit easier to deal with when we’re all in this together. I want you to know that you are not alone in this journey of ups and downs.  I’m glad that you’re here! Let’s talk! Let’s share! Let’s make each other feel that we are not alone in this world of motherhood. Let’s build a community of Moms who will share their knowledge, experiences and thoughts in one place! This is for us!

This is also where I share about our family travels and short trips, yummy food recipes, my knowledge about Autism, DIY and fun activities for kids and other fun stuff like featured content, promo codes and later giveaways.

A Versatile Blogger is a blogger who is considered to have quality writing, a unique subject or subjects, and quality photographs along with a level of love displayed within their blog.

As part of being nominated, I get to tell 7 Random Facts about myself and then nominate 10 other awesome bloggers, so here it goes:

1. I worked as a Behavioral Therapist for children with Autism for nearly 20 years now using ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis).

2. I have PSTD because of a car accident happened to me in 2015.

3. I’m a coffee enthusiast. I want to try different coffee around the world. It would be nice if I could have a café of my own in the future.

4. I love to cook different kinds of food and bake cakes and other sweet stuff but I hate doing the dishes.

5. I am addicted to Netflix and I think I need to get rehabilitated. Aside from American Movies and Series, I also love watching Korean Dramas and Pinoy Teleserye.

6. I want to travel the world but we don’t have the budget to do it, I will gladly accept sponsorships wink, wink! Please email me to collaborate.

7. I originally wanted to have 4-5 kids. I always wanted to have a twin! I’m not getting any younger though so I think it's something that would not happen anymore. Also, I honestly love the fact that my kids are getting older and more independent now. I have more freedom to do things for myself like reading, blogging, working out and such. But let's see!

Here are my nominees:

Now, it’s your turn to nominate those awesome bloggers out there!!!

Way to go!!!

Why did I change my Facebook profile photo frame to Kiwibank’s I AM HOPE?

February 21, 2019

To be honest, I’m not a current events type of person who checks on the news and public affairs every morning, but yesterday I noticed something is going viral on Facebook. Most of my Kiwi friends had changed their profile photos to Kiwibank’s I AM HOPE Facebook frame. At first, I didn’t budge to look at it, but today when I read an article in Newshub, I realized that it is an online campaign to raise money for Mike King’s charity.

Yeah, you’re raising an eyebrow on me and asked, “Who is Mike King and what is his charity about?” It’s such a common name yet going viral because of his intention to help New Zealanders who are suffering from depression to get free mental health counselling.

According to Wikipedia,

Mike King is a New Zealand comedian and television personality. He is also known in New Zealand for the marketing of and subsequent disengaging from the pork industry, and his work on mental health awareness.

He is a mental health educator and the ambassador of The Key to Life Charitable Trust, which aims to help people suffering from depression and suicide by positive social change. He is very active in mentoring young men and women on a one on one basis or visits schools to spread awareness and delivering a message of hope to youngsters.

Why did I change my Facebook profile photo frame to Kiwibank’s I AM HOPE?
It’s for a good cause.

For every Kiwi who adds the Kiwibank's “I AM HOPE” Facebook profile photo frame to their profile pic, Kiwibank will donate $1 to Mike King’s Gumbootnz Fund, which goes towards young New Zealanders suffering from depression and suicide to get free mental health counselling. People can also donate through the Givealittle page.

Yay New Zealand! We’ve already passed the 20,000 mark! Currently, there are 21,000 Kiwis who have used the “I AM HOPE” frame. Kiwibank is overwhelmed with the response of the public, so they are committing up to $50,000 towards that cause.

According to the campaign’s website, there were 137 young people who died by suicide last year in New Zealand, and it is estimated another 3,500 attempted to take their own lives.

While the Government agencies are doing their best on their end, these kids need urgent counselling. Young people suffering from depression can’t wait for up to six months to get the counselling they need. It has to be urgent.
How can we help?
  • Add Kiwibank's I AM HOPE to your Facebook profile photo
  • Donate through the Give A Little page.
  • Support Gumboot Day on 5th of April, 2019

I AM HOPE website is asking us to show our support by joining on its gumboot day on Friday, 5th of April 2019. Put your gumboots on, give a gold coin and take a walk in their shoes for just one day.

Okay, so what are you waiting for? Head on to your Facebook and add the Kiwibank's I AM HOPE profile photo frame now!

My First Photo Book from Chatbooks (My Own Thoughts)

January 14, 2019

So much of my life is actually recorded in photos on my phone, but then what happens to those photos? Probably, some of you are like me who likes to post photos on Instagram. Apart from Facebook, it’s the fastest growing social media network at the moment, and chances are, you have an IG account and has been using it to share the highlights of your daily life. I had my first photo book from Chatbooks yesterday and I love every bit of it. I’m shooked that it’s so easy to use and very affordable too! I regret not starting it early.

Our Experience:

One of the things I’m anxious about is losing photos and videos of my family. Do you feel me? It was the hardest to accept when all your precious photos are gone just like that. I literally burst in tears and screamed like I’ve lost my past! It really hurts so much! Photos are one of the important things in my life because believe it or not, being a Mom is tough as it is… remembering everything from the past gets harder every day especially that I’m getting older. My brain can’t store any more information and so I need a back up. Photos are there to remind me of the moments my family had in the past. I bet you feel the same way too, right?

I’ve always wanted to print all the photos we’ve taken since then but it gets harder to pick good photos from all the millions of photos we took. Having more photos is harder to organize, right? Chatbooks makes it so much easier for me and I'm excited that I've started already!

Since I became a Mom (15 years ago), I’ve taken a lot of photos of my family because I fear of not remembering our past. I’ve already lost baby photos of my second daughter and also our travel to Philippines, Hong Kong and Macau. That is so traumatic for me and I've learned my lesson from that experience. I’ve saved them in a hard drive thinking all our memories will be safe there. I guess I was wrong. Thanks to Chatbooks (NOTE: This isn’t a sponsored post, just something I’ve been loving and wanted to share), printing photos in a book makes my life convenient and safer.
